Last week, I finished up this custom armoire for friends who wanted extra toy storage for their children. Selecting from a piece we had available for custom painting, the large armoire cabinet was transformed from a light brown oak finish to satin black, both interor and exterior, with light distress marks.

The larger middle cabinet has a roll out shelf formerly used for a TV. The backing in this area was damaged, so we replaced it with plywood beadboard (see below). This provided as nice interior look, as well as the ability to add a bonus shelf mounted on brackets. The shelf was cut to allow the middle doors to still slide in, and made tall enough to allow for a laptop to set on the rolling shelf if this type of use was ever desired.

The shelf in the bottom cabinet also rolls out, which was great for accessing basket or containers for play items. And on the inside cabinet doors for both the middle and lower compartments, chalk board paint was applied for added versatility and fun for the children.
