This matching dresser and nightstand set was previously painted red, which provided a great opportunity to paint over and distress back down to to that color. Latex paint needs time to cure before it can hold it’s own as a layer beneath another color. Otherwise, it will sand off easily when the top color is distressed.
So I decided to go bold, and paint the set Peacock Blue. I knew the red underneath would provide a pop, and as you can see here with the heavy rustic distressing, it does that well. Black glaze provided accenting to detailed areas, as well as a weathered look to the new color scheme.
The old pulls were spray painted a dark bronze.

Howdy from the cool confines of my “office” at Starbucks. Since I work out of our garage, and the afternoon Texas heat is unbearable for painting, I pay cheap rent (small coffees!) to office here. I usually make it here after doing a quick circuit of the all the thrift stores I frequent for great pieces. I actually said no to 3 great end tables and nightstands today–not easily done–as all my storage space is packed to the brim! But it’s always fun to look (and maybe I’ll change my mind tomorrow).
But this past weekend, I couldn’t turn down this beautiful antique bedroom set. I love the architecture of these pieces. I love walking by them in our entry way and admiring their stately form! Someone is going to really (okay, please pardon my maybe dated “guy” talk here) score with these pieces. Individual photos of the pieces are below.
Can’t you just see how great they’ll look antiqued white and lightly distressed? Of course, there are other color options.
UPDATE: SOLD – thanks Charlie!
This beauty would also work great as a small buffet or large entry table
SOLD: Vintage chest of drawers and nightstand. Painted Black, with linear distressing and newly added hardware (drawers previously had none). With this major transformation, this set looks great with its updated modern look. Made by Basset, these are high quality pieces. All wood dovetail drawers that are deep and with lots of storage. Chest measures 43″ tall, 34″ wide, 18″ deep. Nightstand 24″ tall, 18″ wide, 15″ deep.
When Taylor purchased a Sea Blue six drawer dresser, she wanted a nightstand with the same color and sun-washed white glaze. She chose this nightstand, which is from the Nine Needing a New Look group.
This nightstand took on a whole new life with it’s new color! And the white glaze did a great job of accenting the molding and spindles on the doors. The original knobs and hinges were kept on the nightstand.
There are just two to go in the Nine Needing a New Look series! I’ll be featuring the vintage nightstand tomorrow, and it will highlight yet another color option different from those below. To see all the previous transformations, go HERE.
SOLD – French provincial nightstand painted turquoise with brass metallic paint trim. Light white glaze over turquoise, heavy glaze over metallic paint. Distressed down to original white and gold paint colors, creating a great multi-toned shabby chic look. 20″ wide, 17″ deep, and 24″ tall. See the “before” photo below!
This nightstand is the third in a series from the Nine Needing a New Look, an eclectic group of nightstands and end tables awaiting transformation. Learn more about this series, and see how the first and second pieces turned out here.
This series is also featured on our Facebook page in a before and after album titled Nine Needing a New Look. It can be viewed by clicking HERE (no Facebook account required).
This past weekend, I realized I had this great collection of end tables and night stands needing a new look. I pulled them all together for this photo, and will feature them individually as each receives a facelift. Two are already complete, and are found below…
The first to have a new look is this hexagon end table painted Turquoise, with Tea Stained Glaze.
The second to be trasnformed is this large nightstand, painted Chili Pepper Red, distressed, and with Black Glaze. Original hardware.
STAY TUNED for more what’s to come with the seven still needing something new…!
SOLD: Nicely detailed nightstand with thick features painted chili pepper red, glazed black, and with light distressing. This is one of my favorite finishes–such a deep and rich look (and hard to capture in photos!). Includes the original hardware. As seen below, a major upgrade from it’s original look! 28″ wide, 16″ deep, 23″ tall.
