One of the most exciting things about glazeis how it accents detailed, ornate furniture pieces. Combined with a great paint color, glaze draws out all the character of a weary and worn piece of furniture just waiting for a new look.
Take this dresserfor example. After sanding major wear on the top, it was ready for a new look. I painted it turquoise, and then went to work with the glaze. This is one of the first pieces where I used glaze to accent detailed areas in this way. It was very rewarding, and with new hardware, it took on a new life!
Ralph Lauren “Black Truffles” Glaze was used to create this finish. As seen here, glazing is an art that rewards great results on ornate furniture pieces.
Refinished in Barn Red, the end table took on a new life! Black glaze accents the detail and molding, accenting the design of the piece.
Distressing revealed both the original wood tones and white primer that provided an extra pop.
Small white marble and brass pulls were added the drawers to top off the new look.
The transformation is this old end table is one of my favorites, and I decided it was a keeper! Since childhood, I’ve loved the color red. It’s also the color of my favorite football team! Go Big Red!!
